When you have plugged the cable in you may get a warning coming from your taskbar (bottom right of the screen) to say it couldn't find or install drivers, or windows experienced a problem you hardware wasn't installed.
Go to the device manager. If no drivers have been installed you should see an entry for the cable in device manager identified by a yellow circle with black exclamation mark on it. Go into that entry, right click and select properties.
You should now see a box with some tabs. Click the hardware tab. You should now see the cable listed in there. Click on it to highlight it and press the properties button. Another box appears with more tabs. Go to driver tab and then you'll see some options. Press update driver and then choose to manually search computer for drivers. you'll get another box come up and from there you have to navigate to the drivers folder for your cable and choose which driver. It's usually a (File Name).ini file and they are normally named something obvious that tells you it's the right one.
If you're still stuck pm me and i'll give you my number, then we can have a chat on the phone to see if i can walk you through the install.
Your other option is to first install the VW OBD software that comes with the cable, then plug your cable in and that should install the drivers automatically.
