STI. Economy can be similar to the WRX if driven carefully. Much better handling too!
However the WRX is still a fantastic car and a good way to get into impreza ownership. Have a great look at a few - look at both examples and find a nice clean one. It's a buyers market at the moment. Good luck

I've had my Blobeye WRX for 5 years now, and my mates keep asking when I'm gonna change it.

The answer is I just cannot think of another car with the blend of practicality and performance in the same price range as the WRX. It has also been absolutely reliable !!

So will probably keep it another couple of years. Personally I'm very glad I went for the WRX over the STI as I would not like the suspension to be any firmer than it is on the sh***y British roads. Also hate the big wing on the back of the STI's but guess you could get the Spec D (for Descreet) with the small spoiler.

My old STi (which I sold Friday), was running 336bhp and was absolutely ballistic... It actually became a bit if a handful for country roads... On a track, however, that was something different...
Paul, what made you get rid mate?

I definately want to take you up on that offer... i'm in Leeds. would be nice to get taken for a short drive rather than go tyre kicking at garages initially.

A bunch of reasons, here goes:

1) I have small two year old twins who enjoy nothing more than spreading tomato ketchup and chocolate aroud the interior of my car. Therefore, I figured now would be a good time to own a two seater car and eliminate such circumstances.

2) Rising costs of fuel, insurance and other motoring costs will make high performance cars less affordable in the future. Therefore, the way I see it is that I have limited time to itch a whole bunch of scratches.

3) 2005 Scoobies are indestructible, virtually (and relative to the others), so I know in a few years time I can easily buy another.

4) I fancy trying something N/A and a bit more progressive on the country roads. My STi was just too ballistic at times, especially when I wanted to drive quick, but hadn't drank 3 tins of red bull beforehand.

5) My cousin buys and sells some cool cars, so can source me something interesting...

I plan on keeping the porker for a year, then having a V8 M3 for a year, before finally swinging back round to an Evo or another Scooby... Or perhaps on the way I will find something I prefer and never own a Scooby again...

... oh, and I must fit it one of those 6.3 ltr AMG's (have your heard the sound they make - god it's good)...

smile I ain't got it yet... I am quite excited though...

My STi had full leather (really rare), and my kids used to shout 'wet seat daddy' and 'seat dip' as they tipped tomato sauce on them. I can't describe how it made me feel! What's worse is my other half used to encourage them!!!

rofl yes!

She used it to travel to school (teacher). The kids loved it, but she always said she felt ridiculous with the loud exhaust (and it was loud). The clutch and suspension gave her back ache too. She put up with it for two years though, so fair play to her wink

Wouldn't it just be easier to have a "no eating in the car" rule?

I know exactly how you feel mate!! At least you had leather, my boy manages to tip everything on the seats these days and after over 6 years of ownership and 4 years of child damage I have gone past the point of caring too much these days. The way I see it I can't see me getting rid of it and the interior will one day go in the bin replaced by a cage, not for the kid!

On the WRX V Sti topic, I have had a WRX from new and spent money on modifying it up to and beyond that of a standard Sti. Why? Well as I was buying new I was at the top of my budget so the Sti was just a little out of site, however, if I had the choice of either I would have gone with the Sti. Don't get me wrong, I love my WRX and it is a bit of an animal these days, very capable of keeping up with Sti's on long country runs and its something I have created at my own pace but if buying in the second hand market the Sti would be my personnal choice just because I crave that performance.

I would not buy a WRX, whilst a ppp is far from slow an STi has a far stronger engine & gearbox.
