Hiya, I guess your abit confused why this is in the subaru section, reason being I went to a track day a while ago and went in a Subaru, where the driver kept left foot braking and I thought it was awesome to be honest, and I'm wondering If there is any tips on how to start doing this, last time I tried I almost went through the windscreen biggrin any tips appreciated... Cheers guys

Just to add the guy did tell me his pistonheads name , but Ive completely forgot it :S

Learn to left foot brake in an auto and then transfer that to a manual car. I do it in the Jag just to give my left foot something to do, but you have to use a really light touch initially otherwise as you have said already, you end up headbutting the windscreen. biggrin

Good technique for correcting vehicle road position mid corner when you don't want to take your foot off the loud pedal. Apply foot brake to tighten up your line.

The real skill is heel and toe where you may also end up headbutting the windscreen if you get it wrong (been there myself several times) hehe

Had a quick go yesterday and was able to do it without going through the windscreen smile and from my understanding you arent supposed to break on corners because it unsettles the car?

You're only feathering the brake pedal, very light/gentle touch.

Imprezas inherently understeer and it just helps to reduce a bit of the understeer where the car is pushing wide in the corner. Just gently feathering the brake helps reduce understeer and tightens up the line.

You would get a similar effect reducing the amount of throttle you're using but that does unsettle the car and you're more likely to induce oversteer plus you're slowing the car down therefore not going through as quick as you could be. You only want to correct the line you're taking through the corner.

There are other reasons to left foot brake like not having to swap pedals from throttle to brake with your right foot saving time (i don't left foot brake for that reason), and i understand to reduce wheelspin coming out of a corner if you don't have an LSD (i don't do that either)

Cheers for the info, basically it's used in a corner if you get the wrong entry speed? biggrin and I think I'll try it again cause I tried it yesterday and it was okay smile
