97-98 cars have two cats, one in the downpipe and one just after the center pipe. I imagine they probably had a similar setup.

Rather than mess about with cats just find yourself a friendly MOT centre. There are a few about wink

Talk to these chaps, they're in Norfolk. I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction.

Last year, I put my '93 through the Mot without a cat and it failed on emisisons.

Cat put back on and it passed.

They only had one cat at this age and its in the down-pipe.

I'm afraid there is no such thing as a 1993 STI. They weren't made until 1994 (March of that year I think it was, with numbered plaques under the bonnet).

You see quite a few 1993 cars advertised as STIs, but they are actually always WRXs.

The above diagram is the perfect explanation of the situation, because the car is. 1993 and not a uk car it's very unlikely that there would be an EXACT MATCH in the analyser database so they are duty bound to perform a non cat test, however it is not as simple as that as some mot stations will just put in the nearest match and then tell you it's failed and will argue till their blue in the face that they put an exact match in for your car.

Find yourself a freindly mot station, give the car a really hard blast Before the mot so it's nice and warm so should be ok on emissions.

Yes thats exactly what happens. last time I looked, I think they had matched mine to a 2.5 UK Impreza. Worries me a bit, as they're comparing a car thats at least 13 years newer.

If you want to fit a lightweight flywheel you better fit an uprated clutch as well and you've got to be talking £400-£600 for both depending on who makes them, and then there's maybe £300-£400 labour to fit them.

£700-£1000 all in then. You could always just buy and DIY to save the dosh.

240 quid for an exedy pink box clutch which should see you OK till around 350/350and about the same again for a lightened flywheel
