There could be a really valid reason for having a roof box, how else am I going to get the gallons of cheap booze home next time I visit Francebiggrin

Ignoring for a moment the swap between similar cars, from an insurance standpoint alone, it might be a good idea.

Bear with me smile ...

IF you have a WRX and fit PPP, lowering springs etc. it is considered modified. IF you buy a GB270, it is not considered modified.

Same applies to STi + PPP vs WR1 / RB320.

IME at least.

I say go! hehe

There is such a thing as a trailer in to which you can stuff even more booze than you could in one of those top mount coffins. Additionally, i think a trailer looks more appropriate on a scooby wagon.

Maybe something like a Scooby wagon back end (estate part), chopped and de-roofed. Now that would look cool!!

The next time anyone asks me about suitable scooby mods i will of course tell them to avoid TMC's!!

shout )))))))))BAN TMC's!!(((((((((

I've never had to go down that route, but thought the point worthy of mention nonetheless.

Elephant and a few others actually recognize the PPP as a model. It was on my old insurance certificate.

Its a sin to even consider putting a tow bar onto an Impreza!!

As for the funky half scoob trailer idea then something simular has already been done but with the back end of a classic. It has the rear seats etc and where there would be the front seats is now a fabricated wall with flat screen TV and Playstationbiggrin

Their website doesn't seem to reflect this. Perhaps they are more accommodating over the telephone..?

When I put my 02 WRX Sti Type UK PPP on its roof in 2004 and wrote it off, Elephant were in fact my insurer.

I wanted to replace my beloved bugeye (cosmetically modified a la TNY5W!) with a 2004 blobeye avec PPP, lowering springs and 18" alloys, as before, but found that having lost 2 years' NCB (deservedly so), insuring a modified car (still Elephant) had become considerably more expensive.

At the time, a WR1 which carried all of these mods plus a few other Prodrive parts bin items, not to mention the 'enhanced' 316bhp PPP, was regarded as a model in its own right, as is the GB270, and incurred no additional premium.

I didn't warm to the WR1 and opted for an EVO 8 MR FQ320, which although modified by Ralliart UK, was sold in this form and thus also regarded as a standalone model.

Sorry to have taken this thread off on a tangent, but I believe my point remains valid.

I imagine your point about specialist (grown up?) brokers is probably equally valid.

I insured my WRX PPP with Elephant over the phone. On the insurance cert is was listed as 'WRX FREE PPP'. Free because at the time Elephant registered this model Subaru were providing this for free.

To be fair, I never used Elephant for my STi which followed.

Anyway, if your going to fiddle with suspension etc then you will still need to declare stuff.

Honestly, I ask you lot a question and you disappear off up every blind alley you can find!

Nearly bought a bug eye PPP estate when we had our first one. Seats were very deep and the lights were a bit naff - the Morelli? conversion was ok. That thing really did shift mind. Bought a blobeye insead, I forget why exactly. I don't recall any insurance issues nor a difference in price between the 2 cars at the time.

So back to the question. Not really worth it. I knew that really but I like the look. I'll see if one comes up locally anytime soon.

Sorry mate, we did go a little off topic there!!biggrin

To answer your question, personally I don't think its worth it but on the other hand they do look great and are quite rare so if its a car that will ring your bell then who are we to suggest you don't get one;)

Not on a wagon its not.

The confused looks on peoples faces when you blow them away when leaving 2 lane roundabouts with a trailer on tow is priceless laugh

Dont have it anymore though frown
