40mpg from an STi
Discussion
If i drove that slowly and economically i'm almost certain i would fall into a deep sleep at the wheel and cause a major accident.
If you want 40mpg+ FFS buy yourself a Micra!! 40mpg...Meh!! I want to see 4mpg
If you want to drive at 100mph in total safety down a super twisty private b type road don't buy a Micra........Get a Scooooooob!!

Hold on, is that article not saying that if you buy some 140bhp sewing machine you can get 43mpg, if you drive like a champion fuel saver? I doubt the STi can even get close to that.
And owning an Impreza is not cheap in terms of fuel. Yes, they can do "better" than most people's 20-ish mpg, but by doing "better" you aren't driving it like the car was intended. Sorry Subaru, it's not really a myth after all!

And from what I remember you was running 350bhp? These are great figures, was this all down to driving off boost and a standard remap or did you need to add anything?
It was 336bhp on crappy BP 97ron fuel. I got the best MPG on Esso Super, but the best performance on Shell and Tesco as you would expect. The exact mods are in my garage.I was just careful driving. Stick below the boost threshold, avoid braking and accelerating etc.
In hindsight, I do think it was a perticulary good example of a car. I recall Simon saying it was 'a good one' given that it made that kind of power on what's considered the worst fuel blend...
Edit: I must be good at conservative driving or something. I am currently getting 33MPG from my Cayman when motorway driving. Don't get me wrong, I love a blast, but I don't see the point of going mental on the motorway
