Yep, if your genuinely interested in that Car, wait and see how the History search Pans out. If u can clarify it has full history, then why not.
However, any missing, or can't be sourced, walk. A lot more Scoobs on the Market to allow you to be choosy. I was lucky in that, it was the actual Scoob that Caught my eye. Never considered one again as a run about, but when i seen the Condition, Mileage and FSSH for the cash he was looking for, no way i could skip it passed. Called him that day and had a deposit down on it!! Went to see it, and my Hunch of it being a well sorted car was correct.
My old Mans words, its like a damm brand new Car.lol.

i've a a bug and a blobeye i do keep considering another as i don't do many miles now,the blobeye was an sl with sunroof and leather and to be honest the heated leather was a nice touch to look at but i wouldn't have another with leather as i found the seats didn't hold you well enough on a spirited drive so spoilt the car a bit for me

I did think you might slide about a bit with the leather, but tbh I think I'd still go with either.

I wonder if I've upset the seller of that silver one asking about it's history, etc as he's just dropped the price!

Had planned to look at a low mileage FSH blobeye this morning as a point of reference but ran out of time. Hopefully get chance in the morning.

One other thing I've noticed reading around, the early EJ20's had piston slap issues that I heard was cleared up by the newage models (if not earlier), but seem to still hear of quite a few bottom end failures on the newage models. Any particular reasons?

Also, what sort of mpg would you get at motorway speeds (off boost)? I was under the impression it would be around say 26mpg, but then I had a few owners telling me they could never get any better than 19mpg. I'm not talking about hooning, just normal motorway pace.

You can Squeeze about 300 out a WRX Blobeye Tank, being sensible. So i am told, never achieved it yet.lol.

30MPG is easy on a run in either a WRX or STi. Did it all the time with mine. Just stick below 80.

OP - that silver one (first on your list) has a later steering wheel, may be worth doubly checking around the front of the car for repaired damage.

I think the 04 model had a different (silver) dash & 3 spoke steering wheel. From what I could see looking at 01-04 Wagons, that the SL model is quite desirable (leather & Sunroof) but does not always attract a premium.

Thanks Graham - I hadn't noticed the difference between wheels, so one to look out for smile

Well, I went to look at one this morning, just for a taste. 53 blobeye saloon, 55k, FSH up for £5k (how much!?).

Generally looked like a decent car, fairly tidy. Unfortunately it had next to no petrol in it, and the as the guy gave me the keys, he said the brakes were a 'little' tired.

I could see they were thin and rusty, but a little tired!? They were next to useless, so between the lack of fuel and ste brakes, I had a short sedate test drive. Generally felt OK, quite soft but definitely planted (would feel soft next to the cup packed 182 anyway), a little hesitant off boost and did have a bit of a stutter, so not convinced it was running at full potential. Certainly didn't get any major shove when accelerating, but then maybe it just felt smoother. Getting back into my Clio felt similar, although the 182 pulled much harder up in the rev range.

Like I say, with the ste brakes I didn't push it too hard anyway.

So basically I need to look at another one, and goes to show that 2 owner, low mileage, FSH offerings aren't always as good as people make them out to be!!

Anyone local to Sudbury, Suffolk fancy taking me for a spin in a WRX? A stage 1 one would be nice, as after driving this one, I'd have to have a remap I think.

The WRX really needs a remap or PPP. I had a similar feeling when I first test drove a bogo WRX.

Am on my 3rd WRX (inc two wagons)... they are a bit asthmatic at the top of the rev range but should still have a bit more acceleration than a 182 despite the extra weight and transmission losses with AWD.

I'd recommend a remap or the PPP too. There's plenty of PPP cars out there as Subaru offered a free PPP incentive for a while (later blobeye model) but if not, you can get an Open Source remap from someone like Duncan @ Racedynamix for around £350.

Very easy to tweak the handling as well - an STi rear anti-roll bar is a good start and can be picked up for £30-50. Add a set of Prodrive/Eibach springs and you should be pretty sorted (though there's plenty more that can be done after that ;o).

As far as an earlier question re the difference between the wagon and the saloon, a slightly narrower track on the wagon is pretty much the only difference - and I agree, no idea why Subaru didn't have the wider arches on both of them.

There is very little in Straight line speed between a WRX and 182, CTR ect, all evenly matched. I've owned 2 WRXs now, and a 182, and when i bought the WRX i was pretty much let down by its Power output in standard form, because my Previous Hot hatches were just as quick. After my Remap, different story. WRX are underpowered, and heavy, in standard form. Should have came out the box with PPP.

The 182 certainly felt urgent after the WRX, but then it's a smaller, lighter, stiffer car.

So who should I be looking to go to for a remap? I don't mind travelling a bit if it's worth it over someone else. I'm in Suffolk/Essex area.

Also, I gather an exhaust will help, now I like the burble, but wouldn't want it to be silly loud. God knows what exhaust my mates STi has, but in the back of that on the way to Le Mans it was deafening!!

Any suggestions?

Yeah, pretty much. A newage sti is out if budget, and a classic shape sti is not what i'm looking for as a daily.

A 2 door one to replace my eunos, one day maybe, but not yet!
