Any body got any prior knowledge of this:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

I originally wrote it off, as it's quite a distance for me to get to on two wheels at this time of year. It is also higher mileage than I wanted and slightly older so doesn't have the cc side skirts.

It is however, just about the only car I can find which fits the bill at the moment!

At 82K miles it's way expensive and it's already 0ver 9yrs old. Looks in nice condition though in and out and it's the right colour, and if PPP is very important to you then fine but the dealer is trying to make £1500 on that at £4995. Privately you could pick that up for about c. £3500.

Offer the dealer £4000 in cash, he makes his bit and sells a car. He might be offering a year warranty in which case £4250. It's a buyers market and he wants to shift cars so play hardball if you really want it but don't pay more than that for it.

Look at it this way, for a 2005 STi with the DCCD and reasonable mileage in mint condition you could pay as little as £8000-£8500. Not a lot more for a considerably younger and higher spec car with very probably a lot less mileage. Ask Paulmoonraker how much he sold his 2005 STi for.

It has a years warranty, but not from the garage, it is one of those warranty companies. I agree that it is over priced. It has been up for sale for atleast a few weeks. I am however really struggeling to find a ppp wagon. In the time I have been looking -around 2 months- I have spotted only 2 that I would have bought and they both sold within 2 days, and before I could get to them.

I'm not sure whether I should wait longer for hopefully an 05 PPP wagon with less miles for 5k or go and look at this. I'm getting tired of looking. Maybe I should just compromise and get a standard wrx.

If you get a standard WRX wagon in nice condition with reasonable miles on it you can get the mods done relatively cheaply. Performance Flat Panel air filter, decat uppipe, decat scrubber after the main cat and leave the main cat in place for MOT test pass, and remap. Much better result than PPP. Keith Michaels Insurance, A-Plan, Direct Line will all insure it with those mods and depending on circumstances will cost you somewhere around £500-£600 fully comp. If you are mid to late 30's+, live in a good postcode, full NCB, garage or off road park the car, and limit mileage to 10K-12K a year you should be fine.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I think I'll open my search up to include the standard wrx. The ppp does make my insurance situation easier, however I reckon I could see out my current policy with a standard wrx and then get the mods next year at the same time my insurance is up for renewal. I'm 27 so have to be a bit careful with the insurance side of things to stop it getting silly.

Thanks again.

My boggo WRX wagon was insured for less than £500 with a 25 year old g/f driver on the policy.
Doesn't seem too bad to me! I also wanted a PPP, but will be going down the modded route as described. Easier option in the end!

How does it feel with that sort of mileage on it?

Tight as a nuns snatch hehe
Perfect. Could pass for 60k no problem. Only have to change a maf and that's it.
It has has a pampered life though. Scooby history till 110k, and two services since (now 127k). Hoping to give her a full and decent end of life with 270-280bhp and track days. Will be changing the oil every 5k from now.

I don't think you'd go far wrong with a WRX wagon, knowing what a decent tuner can do for these cars.

Look for a 2005 SL Spec one (leather seats, heated seats, sunroof) for around £4k, then spend £1k on an exhaust, decatting and a remap. 2005 is the sweet spot as it gets the interior facelift and is lower tax. 2004 is the other option, not sure if that got the interior update or not.

Some 2004s have different dash (heater controls).

For me, I dont like a 'tuner' to mess with my cars, at least with PPP you know that it should have been done right.

There is a nice looking green one in the trader, just been dropped in price i see to 3495 or there about and its a SL.

There are tuners and there are tuners though.
FB tuning for example, he just suggested that he could smooth the power delivery out a bit and lean it out when on boost to help fuel economy a bit. Just a tweak to improve the car from PPP spec. I didn't go through with it, if I was to spend £500 on a remap I'd want to go the whole hog and decat it properly to get the full benefit, but there are a good few tuners for Imprezas who've been in the game years and can do remarkable things for these cars.

The PPP spec map is well known to be overly rich on boost as a low rent form of knock protection, and there are now after nearly a decade of refinements a number of maps that will improve the driveability of the car, make at least the same power and torque, and help fuel economy. What's not to like?

You could always buy PPP bits secondhand and then get them fitted. My mate owns a Subaru specialist and I'm sure he said its pretty easy to do. A while back it was £1600 for brand new PPP fitted at a main dealer, not sure if that is an option if you get a Std wagon cheaper?

When it goes pop.

There can be issues with a standard Impreza (like any car) and by playing with it wont help. This is my opinion and I have been told im paranoid several times!

I'm even funny about who services my Renault!

And definitely who I get to do MOTs and am not paranoid on that one.

PPP is a one size fits all solution that will net you gains, unfortunately it might or might not hit the claimed manufacturer figures. The tolerances PPP works to are pretty wide. You might get 100 PPP cars, all identical in terms of mods, but as we all know every car will be very different to the next even in standard form. They will all vary by quite a margin of error in terms of bhp/torque output.

A remap done right will be carried out by a reputable and experienced tuner that will give you a full custom remap specific to your car and it's modifications. It will drive really well and be quick, have no flat spots and give you reasonable economy driven sensibly. The best bit is up to 270-280bhp and a shed load of torque to boot!!

PPP is fine for many and if that floats your boat more power to your elbow, however, a custom remap is always the best way!!

Good tuners don't "mess" with cars smile

Thanks again gents. I'd spotted the green one. The price is about right but I'd prefer to spend more and have fewer miles. I also can't be bothered having to swap the wheels as I don't want gold and I don't want 18's. I am slightly limited on the motorbike as visiting that in this weather doesn't appeal. Something will turn up.

I kind of agree with the PPP vs tuner thing. I would prefer something ready to go out of the box without me having to mess with it.

Something close, nice and for the right price will appear soon I can feel it.

The green one is down to 3200. I'm tempted to go look but it is miles away from me. It has just had some work done to the headgasket. Is this an issue. It's a lot of car for the money but 92k is making me nervous.

Me, i'd leave it.
Don't think its a common problem.
i'm the same re the wheels, I wouldnt mind another year 2000 classic with 16s on, drives the same, feels the same and cheaper tyres wink
I think the back on a 02+ is better tho

Am sure you will get one.
