Recommend Me Some Brakes (06 Hawkeye wrx)

So after a month or so of ownership, the only thing I'm really not that happy with are the brakes. For me it's the only thing about the car that I'm not getting on with.
The car was serviced before I picked it up, and while the pads weren't changed they were checked, so I will for now assume everything is fine and working correctly down there (but may well check myself before spending any money).
It's been on my mind for a while now, but after going for a run out this morning the brakes just don't fill me with the confidence to press on with car properly, they feel too progressive for my liking, I would much rather have a sharper (more on/off) response and use a lighter touch for regular/every day driving. At the moment it feels like I need to bury my foot into the carpet. Not sure if this is normal or not with these cars in standard guise as I'm completely new to them.
The car isn't going to be tracked so I really don't think I need to go down the expensive big brake kit route but I definitely want to feel a big improvement over the standard brakes I currently have.

Has any one had any experience with EBC stuff? The link above seems like it could do the trick but other recommendations/suggestions would be welcome.
I'd also probably add some good quality fluid and braided hoses whilst at it.

Fresh, high quality brake fluid, braided hoses and some good Pagid pads.

I'm finding the same with my gb270 - you really have to stamp on them to make the car stop - I found out the hard way just after picking the car up - 5 mins down the road and I nipped into the shop to get something for dinner and ran it into the kerb.....bye bye front splitter.....
Also finding that when you first brake after it's been standing for a day or two, you hear an almost grinding like sound - I'm assuming/hoping that it's just the rust on the discs catching in the pads.....

Unless you are in the middle of a hollywood car chase, or you are two laps into Silverstone track day and have brake - If you are having to stamp on your 4 pot brakes, then you have something wrong.
It could be something as obvious as having track/race pads that require a bit of heat to start working correctly, or just your fluid is a bit old.
Brake callipers and master cylinders do wear, and anything with over 70k will see benefits in a service kit being fitted.
If you have aftermarket wheels or STI wheels on your WRX, you could consider front Brembos, but once again, you have the brakes age to consider.
