Has anyone done a mod on an Outback / Legacy that allows the plugging in of an ipod? Just the mini jack input, not after controlling it from the dash.. It's a long shot I know but I love my 05 Outback but the kids moan about listening to R4 all the time and what to play their st on the school run.......So if you could all say it's not possible it means I won't have to endure Ted Sheeran instead of John Humphries.

Thanks.
Phil.

I have a MY05 Legacy - same stereo set-up.

I bought an RF transmitter thingy off Amazon for a fiver which works averagely OK... bit of hiss here and there.

What made the whole stereo more listenable (not a real word, I know) was the inclusion of the subwoofer unit under the passenger seat, the installation for which includes the partial removal of the stereo unit which is why I'm relatively confident in my saying "you can't add a cable connection to this stereo for an iPod".

I was wondering the same thing a while back and I don't think there is an aux-in at the back of the stereo to connect an ipod cable.

I got one of those FM tuner thingies as well, and it's a bit hit and miss tbh.. sometimes it's great, no interference at all, other times I can't get a clear frequency during my whole 40-odd mile commute.

Has anyone ever replaced the whole stereo for a new double-din unit or suchlike? A long-shot I know, as the existing head unit is integral with the aircon / heater controls. Just wondered if it's possible.

On the JDM website there a replacement fascia which let's you install an after market stereo but it's bloody expensive.

This is what it looks like. It's about £250 new because it incorporates a new ac controller, but I can't find the original site. Last time I linked to it from the UKLegacy forum.

Thanks watchman, got the idea now.. I'll get to scouring the internet some more. May start at UK Legacy forum, been on there a couple of times before, there's some good info.

as well as the radio transmitters you can get adaptors that plug into your ipod and go to the tape deck, tried one in my 04 legacy though and it just spat it back out, no idea if it was just my headunit though
