In UK car terms 2005 UK STi is the one to go for. Ask Paulmoonraker.

Alternatively JDM import 2003/2004 cars. They come with all the goodies, DCCD and bigger valves, and would be my preference over a UK car.

Still not sure I need something as manic as the STI...

Seen some very clean looking WRXs about, but they don't have PPP. Are these cars worth considering? Do I add te PPP? (is it still available) or are there better options out there? If so, what cost am I looking at for 260-280bhp?

PPP was a factory fit option I believe, putting the bhp to around 260 and having a slightly different suspension set up. Different exhaust and a remapped ecu I think.
These are a bit harder to find (I was looking for a good one for ages!) but personally I think it's a better route than going with your own remap. I phoned my insurance and my warranty company and both said a car with PPP would be fine, but anything with another remap would invalidate the policy.
To be honest though the standard WRX is pretty quick anyway! Just try and find as clean example as possible, whatever the spec.

Trying to find a sensible mileage, tidy WRX PPP looks to be pretty hard - at least at a sensible price.

This lot seem to sell PPP kits - http://www.subarupartsstore.co.uk/manufacturer/Pro...

Finally realised SL is a trim spec that gives leather, rather than meaning saloon banghead

PPP compared to a proper remap for what it cost is still the poor cousin in terms of power and torque ouput, not to mention general driveability.

For those of you with PPP or had PPP at some stage i'm not taking the mickey or anything like that, merely stating the facts so if you don't like what i'm saying...Get over it. If you've got PPP great, It's good for some and not so good for others. If you don't have PPP get modding. Minor mods and a remap will see you laughing your head off and giggling like a little girl. wink

My advice is always to get an unmolested car that you mod and get remapped yourself. There's nothing that gives more pleasure than to see the fruits of your labour and spends culminate in a well sorted car that's been bespoke remapped exactly to your car.

It's like buying a well tailored made for you Saville Row suit as opposed to a Mark & Sparks or BHS made to measure off the peg suit that fits some and not others despite everyone being about the same size smile

Cheers leebo
It's never gonna be an easy choice, I don't mind holding out for a decent blob sti, but as long as they're tractable under everyday conditions then my mind is erring towards one. Although a late hawk wrx is an attractive prospect. However, having had the wife manage to wreck the Mazda 6 despite reversing sensors and a damn good beating from myself*, I'm somewhat reluctant to let her loose in anything with half decent respectable horse power. If I want to be silly I've always got the lancer turbo, I guess, but that's a bit like going out on the piss with your grandad, people will respect you but don't expect to pull any birds.

  • Not true I'm afraid, I just revel in the machismo.

Will deffo pay a visit to scoobynet.

Cheers Pete
