Hi I am wanting to change my standard downpipe to a sports cat ,but not sure whether to get a 100 cell or a 200 cell ,I would want the car to pass mot without any probs each year , I am getting my car remapped soon ,and was wondering how restrictive the standard downpipe really is ,been looking at scoobyworlds ninja decat , and cobra. Car is a 1997 wrx thanks

200Cell cat. There are many 100CELL cats out there and very few if any ever pass emissions testing for MOT. With a 200CELL cat you stand a much better chance of passing but still no guarantees however, your remap will still get you decent gains when it's done.

If your tuner messes with the lower end (2500rpm and below) of the factory mapping on the ECU he should make sure it remains lean on a 1997 WRX (V3), on idle they read very lean on a wideband anyway and that's fine.

Will get you through emissions hopefully.

When talking power it's always best not to have any back pressure and in that respect a Cat is a restriction in your exhaust that causes back pressure however, a 200CELL cat flows considerably more than a factory 600CELL cat, and baring in mind you need to get the car through an MOT once a year and if you don't want to keep messing about changing exhausts once a year just to get a car through emissions testing, the 200CELL cat is your best option.

The other option is go fully decat and find yourself a friendly MOT tester wink
