First generation Foresters had an SF model code, second SG, third SH etc.

SG9 indicates a facelift (pre facelift was an SG5) second generation model, it's only printed on the vin plate though as it's the Subaru internal code for the model range as a whole.

You got the best one, mine's the slower 2.5XT PPP. Still love it though.

Great place to start for info (European sub forum) http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f75/

I'd kill for a decent set of 18" oem Forester Sti alloys, hard to find these days at reasonable money.

Had mine a few weeks, loving every minute! Great cars. One question, what is the red plastic thing in the passenger footwell? Any ideas?

Good choice, got mine from Litchfields coming up on three years ago now and still not at all bored with it!
Great in the snow too esp on winters. Got to get my alloys refurbed too sometime as they are pretty bad.

You're right, it's a flare! Every car should have one!

What power is the motor running?

Mine is 330/340 and I think an overall better car than the Impreza (and I've owned alot of Imprezas)

I wondered when that one would sell. I saw that last year and looked quite nice. It wasn't mapped for UK fuel so I would do that before anything else.

Get to a Sunday Service too!

I'm now a month into my forester sti ownership and loving every minute. It amazes me how such a niche car can be so well resolved and capable!

Good pic

Every time I drive my FSTi I'm reminded just how well resolved a car it is.

On typical UK A/B roads it just shreds. Talk about pace

I realise that my post will contradict some others here, but I believe that an SG9 is a 2.5l second generation Forester. The SG5 was a 2.0l car and they adopted the same convention used in the first series Forester SF5:2.0l & SF9: 2.5l).

In the same way that GC8 refers to any 2.0l original Impreza, whether turbocharged or not.

This differs from the New Age imprezas, where STI models had a different chassis prefix to that of lesser models.

I assume the sti is a bit more stable in the corners than a gen 1 turbo s?

I love my old forester but a bit of spirited driving results in roll akin to that of a cross channel ferry.

I haven't driven any other Forester than the STi 2nd gen, but this car is just spot on as standard (well, I did fit a cheeky rarb, just to trim the car and get the correct balance).

I've owned many Imprexa's and have usually always gone to town on them suspension wise, to get them where I want. The FSTi is out the box an astounding synergy. Yes, you get a higher CoG, and more weight transfer, but all this is just great for UK A/B's where in the twisties the weight transfer is fun, and combined with longer travel suspension, keeps all four corners planted. Nothing seems to phase it - high speed compressions, hump back bridges, off camber... etc In many ways, a better all round car than the Impreza

The Forester IS an Impreza (high capacity estate).
