Nice one thank you. Did the key just work straight off from Timpsons or did you have to program it? Or did they do that part? Just quoted 375 pounds for a key from Subaru it’s about quarter of its value haha

The key from timpsons only codes to a immobilizer on the steering wheel, the car will still not start without the fob disabling the main cat 1 immobilizer (the one with the keypad on).

In summary , the timpson key has no buttons . Only a hidden radio code the car looks for when starting. The fob is the thing you pair to the car and it opens the doors and disables the immobilizer. It re sets though, after 30 seconds of getting in the car and not starting.

That’s amazing thank you. Is there a chance I could knock out the ‘real key’ just a little worried about that. Thanks again

Maybe a model number on the key or anything that would help wink

Ill have a look later and perhaps take a pic.

I just took my big key in and asked for another cut. He did so and then matched the code "By magic". Then I had to programme the extra fob (and the original key) to the car using the keypad.

So went to two Timpsons now had two keys cut both on wrong keys and neither opened. They jut can’t work out what key to use! Think your timpani was better than mine. If you do get chance the number is in the plastic bit on the other side of the key to you picture.

Merry Christmas.

Hi, Just to let you all know I got hold of a key fob from Ebay and successfully recoded it to my Impreza. The AC110 key fob remote supercedes the AC38 one

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Unused-Sigma-Su...

It is an easy job to recode them, as for the keys, there's an independant key cutter in Ipswich whom has done keys for me in the past and is confident he can code a new key easily. (as far as I know it's the transponder chip inside the key housing which gets coded). I'll get one done and let you know how I get on, including price etc.

Just to clarify ,

The key fob disables the alarm and immobiliser, this is coded to the car by the key pad under the dash.

The car key itself needs to have a transponder chip programmed which correlates to the vehicle, cloned from an original key in order to start the car, so the immobiliser and key effectively secure the car through 2 different systems.

Hi,
Sorry for sounding a bit of a nobber, but am I right in saying the following:

Fob was coded by you on the car using the keypad.

Key was coded by Timpsons by cloning the transponder.

If you fail to start the car within 30 seconds, pressing the fob will allow the key to start the car again?.

I have already coded my fob, just need to get a key coded and cloned this weekend. Subaru quoted me £300, so far it's been £30 off ebay plus whatever Timpsons want.

Yep sounds about right.

Being a Cat 1 feature of the main immobilser (keypad controlled) it self arms again after 30 secs if the car is not started . Therefore cue me looking a right nob at first , when opening the doors with the fob ; putting stuff away , getting radio sorted then go to start the car. It doesn't , took a while to figure out , had to ask the dealer. lol. noob Subaru owner.

Oh well, I had a new key cut and coded but it doesn't bloody work lol!. The fella at Timpsons flashed it twice but it'll start the car initially, then the transponder light on the dash wil flash (The red key icon). He said that he'll be getting more transponders in this week, so I need to go back and give it a try with another one frown

well ,after trying a different chip, I now have a spare key and fob which both work , at a fraction of the cost Subaru wanted. That's £200 extra in my pocket, so thanks to everyone on this thread who gave advice!.
