09 STI 2.5 Decision

Previously had a 06 2.5 WRX wagon. Traded it in for a 2013 Fiesta ST to help with a little more miles for work however I can justify the fuel costs now for the STI.

Problem is this:

Car was previously 'sold' but the buyer wanted a part replaced due to a noise. Think it was power steering pump. Either way, when repairs were being carried out their mechanic took off the radiator then realised it wasn't necessary to do this and re-fitted it but didn't refill it... So test drive resulted in it overheating and head gasket going. Buyer then said he wasn't buying it due to the way things were handled.

It's currently being repaired. Head is being skimmed and new gaskets etc. Is this an issue or would a full rebuilt be better long term?

I don't need the headache of wondering if it will blow up again anytime soon and wouldn't have a spare £2-5k for a forged build.

Apart from this the car is immaculate and almost to 330s spec. Service history is complete and oil changed regularly.

Yes, walk away fast, they don't like over heating at the best of times, let alone with no coolant at all, the blocks warp & liners go out of shape, it needs more than the gaskets & heads skimming, I see it all the time with Subaru's.

If a hg goes on a 2.5 then the bottom end will fail soon after in about 75/100 cases , 2 litre is about 50/50 failure
