Morning

My colleagues Forrester Diesel (2015 model 2.0) is blowing a puff of blue smoke periodically when revved over 2500rpm. He suspects the DPF filter.

Any one here have any ideas ??

Cheers

is blue smoke not oil , is it loosing oil ? black would be the filter i believe , still under warranty ? so go to subaru ? is it running ok , mileage i assume is not high , from my limited knowledge of deisels that part consists of being behind them they often seem to puff smoke any way but appear fine

there's been some discussion with the US Forester owners about this and deemed high oil consumption

OP, take a look of the Forester forum and ask the question there www.subaruforester.org

Having owned one or two diesels with DPF's, its not the DPF (plus you would normally get a warning light for a blocked/failed one), and blue smoke is not a good sign in any car.
I would be taking the car back to the dealers, as stated blue = oil, on a 2 year old car that means trouble but its still under warranty (lets have a new engine please), and its one of the reasons I wouldn't touch the Subaru diesel with a barge pole, its not a good engine and has a history of failures for no reason (even VW gave up on the idea of a boxer derv).

Tell him to go to the dealer, and don't let them fob him off!!

Diesel Subaru engines have had a rocky reputation. DONT be fobbed off that it's a characteristic or within tolerances. Blue smoke is burning oil passed the seals.

@year 3 they'll suddenly say 'ah it's going to be £x sir. To fix.
