Clutch advise on a 06 forester

Surprisingly, I've never had any clutch problems before, but the other day I was accelerating and the revs were going up but the car wasn't going forward in the way it should given the revometer.
I phoned my mechanic and he said it was the clutch slipping and it wasn't an immediate problem, he'd ran a car for 6 months like that.
So, a few days later I'm driving from Inverness, driving up the steep long stretch of the A9 just outside the city heading south and the gears weren't engaging at all so I pulled over and called a tow truck.
I'm guessing I need to have a new clutch fitted, but does anyone think there'll be more damage done?

i would not expect more damage , just change it and go from there , don’t skimp on clutches get a good branded one and unless you have lots of extra bhp then a standard one should be fine , what mileage is the car ?

it’s not an unrealistic time for a clutch to go , i take it the clutch slave and master cylinder are ok and you are not loosing any fluid ? unfortunately a clutch change is quite a big job , i believe it’s quicker taking an engine out than gearbox off , go to some one who knows subaru’s not just any garage , i’m sure some one can recommend one or a bit of googling will help , if engines out cambelt time too ? hope it gets solved soon and not too much £

Driving a car with a slipping clutch can damage the flywheel if it gets too hot (slipping causes lots of heat)

if there are fly wheel issues they can normally be re skimmed but hopefully all ok
