Hi Everyone.

I’m just after a bit of an opinion really. My 2003 WRX is due it’s 50k service which includes the belts etc but the non Subaru garage quoted me £550 + VAT.

Does that sound right? To me personally it sounds a bit on the expensive side but I stand to be corrected if I am wrong!

Cheers

What exactly does it involve?

What Oil? Is it having oil/air/fuel/sparkplugs/tensioners/aux belts?

This an old service sheet from 2007.

Looks like the cambelt is due, although that should probably have been replaced a couple of times based on age already.

I was quoted £700 including VAT to do cambelt, tensioners, auxillary belts, water pump and coolant in 2016 from a garage I trust - not the cheapest place, but straight. The quote said 5 hours of labour.

I actually spent ~ £250 on the necessary parts (plus a breaker bar) from Import Car Parts and did it myself, but it took me 8 hours.

Sounds about right for a major service, my new age Hawkeye had all fluids, plugs filters etc at a main subaru dealer, but no cam belt and it was around that price, can’t recall if it was 50 or 62k, I have a feeling that it was a 5 year major one, but as I said the cam belt had already been done so was not needed.

Gates Cam belt (full kit) and water pump will set you back £250 odd alone, that’s without the gearbox, axle, trans and brake fluids, filters, plugs and labour.

Best idea is to get a breakdown of costs.
