Can Scooby owners on PH help me out here? There seems to be no definitive answer upon Googling it, and the book of lies is no help here....

Is this the camshaft sensor "A" circuit, as my reader is telling me?

from my digging this week, yes that is the camshaft sensor
(Wifes WRX STi threw up a check engine light, turns out to be a camshaft sensor issue...
One is on order...

FYI my code was P0365
Replaced the sensor yesterday, not thrown up a warning yet!
Took about 20 mins to remove & re-fit

P0340 was my code.

Here's something though and a bit of an update that might help you - the CEL made itself known lot long after my alternator shat itself, was making a right racket. It was charging, but something had gone wrong with the bearings/inner shaft. At the time, I would have thought these two problems were un-related and just a coincidence it happened at once....

So doing some digging, I've discovered Subaru ECU's and camshaft sensors are sensitive beings, any abnormality (In this case the various currents and voltages and electronic wizardry caused by the knackered alternator) will cause a "phantom" CEL.

So, having replaced the alternator, I curiously wiped the code and took it for a good drive and it all now appears to be fine once more. No CEL, no running problems!

Edit to add - have the new sensor, haven't fitted it yet. Was waiting on the outcome of the alternator replacement.

I was wrong;
the pic in the first post is not a camshaft sensor; its a tumble generator valve position sensor.

The camshaft position sensors are on the rear of the block, one each side.

they are a pig to replace - you need to remove the intercooler and the manifold

Hmm yeah see, going back to original post confusion - there's too much this or that threads going around haha.

I've just seen a youtube video of a lad in the States swapping the sensor over, he kept the intercooler on and managed to get at it from the sides - albeit with a struggle.

As I said in my last post, I've installed a new alternator which has solved the CEL lights and car is running faultlessly now. I'll keep an eye on it though and go to war with it, if needs be!
