Re-posting from Toyota Category

Hope you are all well, what do you all think of the JZX93, 4WD version of the JZX90 with the normally aspirated 2.5 liter 1JZ-GE?

I had a JZX100 about 7 years ago, that was an auto like all the JZX93's (I think) and I loved it, That car had some modifications, not least of which was well set-up TEIN suspension. I know the performance of a JZX93 that will be vastly different to my first Mark II, which had engine modifications too. But the standard driving position, the light steering, the smoothness of the straight 6 and just general all round engineering brilliance of a car that I just felt was high quality all round, made me enjoy driving the car on any occasion.
It was more than a handful in the wet mind you, and in this day and age quite easy to lose your license I would think. I really don't mind an auto these days as there is so much traffic in most places, for me the relaxing gearbox it outweighs the occasional pleasure of self selecting.

Now I have decided the only 'reasonable' (less than 15k GBP) way in to ownership to a JZX is either to try and buy an auto in either turbo or normally aspirated form. I hadn't really thought of the 4WD versions until recently, and I saw one come up which was a JZX93 Grande Four, and am tempted. The JZX90 looks better than the JZX100 in my eyes, and the colour of the one I have seen is the dark green, which I also love.

My plan is to purchase and get using it, but am also wondering about the possibility of buying a Verossa or Crown Estate with a scruffy body and taking out its 1JZ-GTE engine and putting it in the JZX93.

Anyone else ever driven or owned a JZX93? It might just be that at my age and lifestyle that the modest engine makes for a perfectly fun car to own and enjoy. I assume that having a reasonably priced JZX90 type is going to be desirable in the long term anyway, regardless of which version it is. It will be nice to have a car that I can drive throughout the winter, I could even turn it is to a crazy rallycross themed car that I am certain would bring a smile to a few faces!

Looking forward to hearing what you think

Just in case anyone is interested, I bought one. Not too pricey but more than other normally aspirated cars of a similar style (it’s the JZX problem!)

It’s a grade 4 B, here are two of the auction pics

Going to ask a question here, but am not expecting anyone to know the answer outright, but if anyone can suggest on where to look it would be really appreciated.

Are the jzx90/93 engines interchangeable? This 93 will have the normally aspirated engine, I would assume that it would be reasonably straightforward to do the 1JZ-GTE swap.

My guess is it’s the same 4 speed auto in both the Tourer V, Tourer S and the Four

Any comments welcome

I hate that Toyota's had 4sp auto's at this point in time... anyway these threads say should be possible:

check the sump mount

merits of soarer v supra a70 engines

light wiring advice

Though it would be odd if you couldn't do it easily ime from chatting with owners.

So, had it delivered today. Put a new battery in, it’s all insured and just filled up with 116 quids worth of 97Ron

Shane about the wheels, but on the plus side they are shod with brand new Yokohama winter tyres, so can put something more fitting and keep these in the garage until the winter.

One of my favourites designs - there was a Ray's gathering in Japan to celebrate back in April.

However I wouldn't get that brand as I've heard too many bad things about them falling apart. If you can stomach the wait then I got these through Jesse Streeter for less than £800 (including shipping) and took about 6months to arrive.

They are genuine Rays Homura with centre caps & were found on that crooober site and listed as condition 2/5 but I've checked all four and there's barely a mark on any of them. Would look like this when I finally get around to putting them on the car;

I have seen that croober site, interesting. I quite like the standard 5 spins alloys that came with the tourer V, I want to keep a ‘clean look’ . But those above do also look great. Thanks for the tip

Sorry wasn't slating the design you'd chosen, I think they'd work really great on your car as it suites the style better. thumbup Just heard that the company in the pic you put do not have the best quality and if you live anywhere where the roads are like where I am then I'd be going for quality.

Could you get some 2nd hand TE37's from crooober? However I think that might be more effort, they're a very popular design so you might get lucky with someone who isn't taking the piss price wise and are selling them on here? smile
