Sounds rather petty. Is it just his accent that puts you off?

Oh does it? I'm terribly sorry. I'll run my posts past you in future before I put them up. smile

Apart from finding him irritating, something about his delivery I can't put my finger on, his support of the BBC-Lefty MMGW bks is disappointing. Plus 'Things Can Only Get Better' leading to the sight of Prescott dancing. Unforgiveable.

He can come across as a bit smug on telly but I think its great to see someone trying to popularise science, plus he does take the mick out of himself on The Infinite Monkey Cage.

Take off your thin skin and put on a thick one. If you can't take a gentle jest you are in the wrong place.

True. But I find most documentaries these days too 'Ooooh! Ahhh! Isn't it amazing!' with loads of intrusive music and animations. I must be an old fart as I preferred the old school documentary programmes from years ago full of talking heads where you had to concentrate really hard otherwise you lost it. Hardly mainstream viewing though I admit. If he gets a few more people, especially children, interested in something other than reality shows then I suppose it's a good thing.

Still can't stand him though I'm sure he's a thoroughly nice chap. smile

Each to his own I suppose. Still, glad it gets an airing on main stream telly. There is more up there than them statelites that feed 24 brain dead material for the masses.

Indeed, we can all agree with that.

I couldn't care less who hosts such a programme. It's just fantastic that something like this is being shown on prime-time terrestrial TV. It obviously worked really well last year - with loads of astronomy clubs and societies reporting a big increase in attendance and membership as a result of the 2011 programmes.

I am no big fan of Joanathan Ross - but the fact that he was on last year's show wasn't enough for me to start whingeing.

More space and more astronomy on TV please.

I'm not whingeing nor asking for him to be removed. I just don't like him. It's my human rights smile. You may. We can agree to disagree.

my view on Prof Cox is he has opened up the topic to more normal folk.

Although i've always had an interest (studied Geology as subsid at Uni), it wasn't until I watched his 'Wonders of .......' programmes that it really re-ignited my interest.

I think that is where he does a fantastic job.......i can live with his 'wrong side of the Pennines' accent for that.

Is there a 'right' side of the Pennines? Surely south of them is best? smile

He got me into Science, I have no GCSE's (I basically bunked off my last year) and I am now studying with the OU while working 60 hours a week.

Good on you. I used to work with a guy who'd left school with no O-levels, then gone back in education in later life and got a PhD.
