Could it have been an 'Iridium Flare'?

They are flashes and don't last very long. It happens when the satellite reorientates itself and reflects the sun down to the viewer. They're also predicted, heavens-above.com can tell you when and where they're going to happen.

Oddly enough, when out looking for (and failing to see) the ISS last night, I saw something that exactly matches that description. Cool!

Anyone watching the southern sky last night? I've seen countless meteorites but this was special. Special as in FMWWT special eek

20:08 GMT south-west, elevation about 15°. Track east. For about 3 seconds it was the brightest thing in the sky at which point it disintegrated into 3 smaller object and visible debris. Colour change from white to red at break-up.

Oh yes, and it was big.

How fast was it moving?

Was it at meteorite speed or ISS speed?

Meteorite speed. I've seen quicker but that could be just the angle.

Probably a meteor then smile

I was thinking it could possibly be re-entering satellite or piece of space junk - but their speeds are a lot less than a meteor's - 17,500 mph v' 60,000 mph.

after listening to all the evidence and considering where you saw what you saw and discussing it with Matt Moneymaker, I can definately say that you saw a Sasquatch!

According to most people a meteor landed somewhere in south wales last night.
I heard the bang but due to reading a book did not see the object.

Fortunately i am not an over reactive little girl on twitter and facebook so found this;
http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/9896858.Cwmb...

The bang was massive and people in a 30 mile radius could hear it. Which would explain the theory of exploding in mid air.
