Finding A Star
Discussion
It will be very disappointing if there is nothing there.
He's got a bit of a bee in his bonnet about this for obvious reasons and I was hoping that I could sort it out for him.
As I said, I know these are a bit of a nonsense but anything that keeps her memory alive for him and takes away his sadness for a while is a good thing.

I think having a photo on the sideboard might work better rather than a miniscule dot only visible through the Hubble Space Telescope. He's got a bit of a bee in his bonnet about this for obvious reasons and I was hoping that I could sort it out for him.

Right. I've found it! He's got a bit of a bee in his bonnet about this for obvious reasons and I was hoping that I could sort it out for him.

It is the star at the centre of this image.
I'll get more info later.

Eric, I created this thread to find out something that is very important to my brother in law, not for you to spam it will loads of stupid comments.
If your intention was to give me the impression that you are an annoying, silly little man the congratulation, mission accomplished.
To do this on a thread about something to do with my deceased sister makes you the lowest of the low.
Now, go away or I'm going to report you to the moderators of the site.

What is the magnitude of the star?
12.9.I'm not a visual observer, but I'm fairly sure that you would need a bloody big scope to see it.
However, it would show up clearly in a 10 minute photographic exposure.
OP, if you would like a good photo, then send me an e-mail at the beginning of next April. I can get you a much cleaner/better photo than the one that I have already posted.

He is correct though, you can't name a star like that.
Let's be honest now. At the end of the day, who does it harm?We all know that the name give to commemorate my sister is never going to be seen as it's "official" designation.

You know you are giving someone money for nothing? I will let you name the Eiffel tower after your favourite pet if you give me 200 quid. We all know that the name give to commemorate my sister is never going to be seen as it's "official" designation.

My God, I cannot believe this thread. Well done to Don for finding it but to all the people saying 'you can't do that, blah blah bleat bleat' babies; give it a rest. This isn't a thread about whether naming a star is a good idea, or valid, or anything like that. It's a chap trying to help his grieving brother-in-law (and it was own sister that died). Astonishing that you think it's a good idea to belittle the sentiment. Whether you agree or not.
ETA: It is also rather satisfying that the only person capable of finding it was one of the only ones that didn't bleat.
