rolleyes He can do what he wants. All he is being told is that the star is not actually named, and they are paying money for a piece of paper. That is all. My, you are an angry individual.

I'm aware that it's not it's real name and will never be. I've said that already, but my BiL is finding solace in this and if naming the Eifell Tower would do the same I'd gladly do it an pay whatever it took.

I'm devastated that my sis has gone but he is in hell right now and anything that helps is good in my book.

The photo is now queued.

If the weather co-operates in the next 10 weeks, then we will take a photo of it.

The plan is to take a series of 3 minute sub-exposures with red, green and blue filters to produce a full colour photo.

Thankyou so much Don.
Hopefully I can repay your generosity some day.

My God, I cannot believe this thread. Well done to Don for finding it but to all the people saying 'you can't do that, blah blah bleat bleat' babies; give it a rest. This isn't a thread about whether naming a star is a good idea, or valid, or anything like that. It's a chap trying to help his grieving brother-in-law (and it was own sister that died). Astonishing that you think it's a good idea to belittle the sentiment. Whether you agree or not.

ETA: It is also rather satisfying that the only person capable of finding it was one of the only ones that didn't bleat.

Yes, it's quite remarkable what happened in this thread isn't it.

I was actually wrong in what I said.
I've since learned that it wasn't a friend who bought the star for my brother in law, it was my niece, who's mum it was who had just died.

Perhaps the "contributors" would like to give her a call and explain to her how she can't do this sort of thing or how it's a waste of money or how a picture on the mantelpiece would be a better idea. I imagine they'd never thought of that.

Alternatively, perhaps the contributors are just pleased and satisfied with themselves that they managed to hijack this thread, have a laugh and upset and irritate me to the point where all these months later, whenever I think about my sis, the comments in this thread are at the back of my mind and.

So, in conclusion, congrats lads on putting your indelible stain on her memory for me.
I get the feeling you will be very pleased and smug about that.

Longshot. Sorry to hear about your sister, I hope the star gives her husband something extra to remember her by.

If you think of this thread when you remember your sister it's probably because you're still grieving, rather than the input of a faceless few on a forum. I've lost friends and relatives, one I even (for a long time) held myself partly responsible for, time is a great healer - there's just no rules on how much time.

I 'named' a star for somebody once. He seemed happy at the time as it was something a little different. I shouldn't think he has plans to move there any time soon.
