For example. My OHs Aunt is into all the alternative therapies. She is forever going on about this magic plant, that magic treatment and she works as a reflexologist.
I don't like the idea of other people being conned by all this crap so there is only so much lip biting I can do but when I do speak out I usually get grief for it and get made to look like the nasty one picking on the Aunt.
Which is a bit annoying as they all think she is mental but just wont say it to her.

When Sheldon does it on the Big Bang Theory they all find it hilarious banghead

Just avoid the topic. No point in you getting all het up.

What will it achieve - apart from a stress induced heart attack.

It causes all sorts of grief between my wife and I. When I eventually turn out to have been right all along I get accused of being annoying.

My in laws are religious and are convinced of the benefits of homeopathy.

Sometimes I just have to get up and leave the room/dinner table/holiday/family gathering/vehicle.

You just have to learn to accept that she is bat st mental and deal with it. My best mates mum is a homeopathist and a believer in many swivel eyed fallacies reported by well known fantasists.

My method of dealing with it is to get involved, discuss it, try to apply logic and reason, be diplomatic and try to see things from her point of view. Sometimes she is willing to relent, other times I am better off smiling, nodding and agreeing.

If she is mental, she is mental. May as well get some entertainment out of it rather than stressing yourself out smile

If people start talking to me about these things, I will tell them what I think as a response. My SIL and her mum like homeopathy. They extolled the virtue of this vial of something, and after a while I had a look, and noticed it was homeopathy. I told them what I thought.

Not many folk like to be told.

I wouldn't define it as 'being into science'. It's simply 'knowing stuff'. You know, they don't.

The "being into science" bit is that you want to know: they don't.

As the old saying has it. "If you ever find you are the most intelligent person in the room, leave the room."

What if you're the only person in the room?

This is why I'm proud to be British. We invented the greatest conversation topic on Earth: the weather.

"Have you heard about unicorn feathers being a cure for bowel canc..."
"They said it's going to rain tomorrow! How strange for May, don't you think?"

Indeed.

'Where are you from?'
'Ramsbottom.'
'Lower Ramsbottom?'
'No, Upper Ramsbottom.'
'What's it like, Upper Ramsbottom?'
'Windy'

Yeah OK, move me to the lounge!

My OH is a doctor and used to go to have reflexology regularly. I'm sceptical but she seemed to like it. Don't get her started on homeopathy though, she's in agreement with most people who think that's, to quote Sheldon, complete hokum hehe
