My garden fence was blown down in about 1996 or 97.
So, recent years have been relatively calm compared to all that.
Of course 1996/7 may have been the year that the winds were no stronger, but the time when your fence finally rotted beyond breaking point So, recent years have been relatively calm compared to all that.

Deforestation and having too many humans on the planet are the cause. The weather will not get any better until this is rectified. Any ideas?
Apparently about 150,000 people a day die. IF you dried them out first to season them they'd make a good fuel source. If that isn't enough to meet demand - there's plenty more people who are still alive, who could have an "accident".I really don't think our weather (climate more technically) has change significantly. I'm in my mid (late!) 30s but remember as a kid summers where it was very hot all summer, and winters with feet of snow and having to dig the drive out so my dad could go to work. I remember floods and lots of rain and puddles everywhere.
Yes the last 2-3 winters we have had a good amount of snow. But that is fairly 'normal'. Yes we've had a few naff summers, but that 2003 was a scorcher, and we've just had 3 weeks of lovely weather.
But what this really shows, (as others have allueded to on this thread) is that 'memory' and 'personal' weather interpretations are a very unreliable and rubbish for comparing year on year.

I think the weather has been very unusual this year, a bitterly cold and very drawn-out winter followed by a couple of months now of very warm and sunny weather.
It's more how I remember it 30 years or so ago, whereas recent years have been less 'seasonal'; last year in particular, after a March mini heat-wave it just rained all summer.
yep it's been brilliant apart from getting soaked through 300' above ground at 22C yesterday!!It's more how I remember it 30 years or so ago, whereas recent years have been less 'seasonal'; last year in particular, after a March mini heat-wave it just rained all summer.
