What about this one that's buried in the cemetary in Aurora, Texas? Quite a story - seems to have provenance.
What's that?http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/chas...

The wikipedia article focuses somewhat on the hoax angle but the whole story is worth looking into, as a statement supporting the hoax angle was shown to be baseless. It seems a pretty well researched UFO incident but I think the above is a good overview if you haven't looked further into it.
But something which piques my interest is, obviously back then there were none of these supposed MIBs and government agencies to perhaps keep people away - so if there was an amount of wreckage taken by souvenir hunters, wouldn't some of it it have surfaced by now?

The Fermi Paradox asks the question why we haven't had confirmed alien contact when it is probable we're not alone in the universe.
Ooh, ooh, Sir...SIR!! Me, sir, Me!!Ahem. My theory is, if they are out there, maybe they're just waiting for the right moment.
You know, like when the machines rise up after the singularity and we're gonna get properly filled in. Then the aliens - who ahve been testing our defences and technology over the years, come and help us once they've established we're weaklings - and then we get to see what they're capable of, as opposed to seeing the results of them pissing around with the alien tourism business along with the wealthy alien offspring crashing their parents space ships etc.
I'm saying about 2050/60.
There is rather a gap between emerging from primeval slime, and devising a faster-than-light transport system that can unerringly pinpoint life on the other side of the universe. The former is entirely feasible; the chances of the latter, even if possible, are considerably less.
Why do humans assume that any alien species must be more advanced than they are?

I'm very open minded on the subject. If you are open to the idea that life exists on other planets then you have to accept that there will probably be both lesser and more advanced species out there.Weird to think though, around 8.7 million species on our planet and as far as we know we're the only one who ponder our own existence.
I started a topic here, back in June (http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=205&t=1300674&nmt=Canadian+Defence+Minister+confirm+Aliens%2E%2E%2E%2E&mid=271122)
It certainly is interesting that a ranking GOvernment official can say such things, without his being censured by his PM.

Because they are on a similar technological plane to ourselves? Or even less technologically advanced, which would make communication impossible at present.shakotan said:

I know the paradox. It makes some gigantic presumptions and ignores many-many answers that make it redundant as a true paradox. Here's just one of hundreds:
"Presumably some of these civilisations will have developed inter-stellar travel"
Really...and those are ones that are within our 'flight-time' or in our region of space-time?
Many scientists believe the paradox to be fundamentally flawed and I'd argue that it must be or else Aliens would indeed be here by now.
But distance is the killer. You'll need new science to bridge that divide.
