No point transmitting when it is not there. If there is a TWT in the system then best kept hot anyway?
Yeah, there's usually a wind-down for the TWT, but they were confirming data uplink for a bit anyway (presumably belt-and-braces).

The DSN's just gone dead, so that's it. Nice one Cassini, what a fantastic piece of kit.

Not familiar with the big stuff, if they follow the same rules as the smaller stuff then they just leave them on?

I feel genuinely sad. What a great spacecraft.

I was genuinely emotional at the end. I have followed the mission for nigh on 15 years and it felt like losing an old friend.

I think it was a great way to go - sort of like a Viking funeral.

Agreed Cassini has done well, although.....Cassini is not a she, the spacecraft has no gender but if you were to assign one it would be after its name sake as he was a male astonomer wink

Cassini–Huygens to give it its full mission name. Both male of course.

However, I'm pretty sure that in the western tradition, even huge aircraft carriers named after male humans are still affectionately referred to as "she". It's only natural to continue this tradition on to space ships.

Its a questionable tradition as both male and female terms are used, possibly the best way to describe of an inanimate object was in a scene with Ranulph Finnes. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=...

I think we should credit Voyager 2 with the original Mimas/Death Star image -

I doubt that or you telling me no one cares is true because clearly they do.You may have noticed the real scientists and engineers on the BBC program refer to Cassini by name or 'it' rather than giving Cassini a gender clearly there was a lot of affection for Cassini by the team but at no point was 'it' humanised......
