I see the children have decided to 'contribute' again frown

I see no problem with sending non pilot/scientist/engineer individuals into space - especially if they are paying for their own tickets.

Air travel would be a bit restricted if you only let Charles Lindbergh types fly. At some point it needs to start opening up.
why? It’s a pointless egotistical Joy ride wooo hooo I’ve circled the moon! I agree with the others if we are going to burn the earths recourses there should be a real and benifical (to the world) reason for doing so.
Yeah, it's only more test data and funding for a team striving to be the first to accomplish interplanetary travel.

The flight will mainly be about the validation of the BFR systems and performance - if they can charge decent money to have some spam in the can at the same time - and make sure the spam has ticked all of the 'I fully accept that I may die a hideous death and my frozen remains may drift in orbit for all eternity, and I won't sue anybody as a result' boxes on the legal waivers, the why not? Same as using a Tesla Roadster as ballast on the Falcon Heavy - if it piques public interest in a test flight, that's a good thing,

it's not much different from going for a scenic drive or a day trip or a holiday, really, is it? All actives that plenty of people consider acceptable and undertake themselves.

I'm sure he's fully aware of the risks and is willing to take them, so SpaceX can't be held accountable! I don't see the problem with it, he's paying a lot of money to go and SpaceX get all the data and info back to take on the next mission. Win win and I'd 100% do it if I was the billionaire too!

Is this supposed to be the first circumlunar flight with this spacecraft? Would there be an unmanned test flight first - or a flight undertaken with a test crew only?

In aviation and space it has long been axiomatic that in the early stages of development of an aircraft or spacecraft, you only risk the lives of the professional people involved in the project i.e. the test pilots and test crew (if a crew is required).

As with a lot of Musk "propaganda", the nitty gritty detail is missing.

The vehicle is supposed to begin hop tests at the end of next year, so by the time of the moon flight will have been well tested

No idea why Eric thinks they will just build it then next day fire it off to the moon full of pop stars or whatever...

I'd vote for that! But I'd probably skip the Tran-Earth-Injection burn.

Have we any idea of the test programme at this stage?

(I can think of plenty of pop stars that should be fired to the moon - with or without rocket assistance).

I never think the word "believe" sits well when it comes to matters of engineering and science.
