If you like that sort of thing, have a look for the films by* Peter Kuran. They are all awesome, especially "Trinity and Beyond".

He does make some odd choices of narrator though (Captain Kirk, and Batman..).

*by, as in, directed and produced. He's done special effects for dozens of other films.

Sounds interesting. I took part in a large military exercise last Oct in N Wales and got to visit the nuke power station at Trawsfynydd, which was an enemy objective. What a cluster-fk of incredible magnitude. It's costing us all a fortune in order to return it to the 'care and maintenance' phase which should of been 20 plus years ago. Basically when Magnox built this facility they did not take into consideration the fact that one day it would need to be dismantled.

Magnox wasn't primarily developed for electricity generation. That was a side benefit.
It was primarily a design of pile for producing plutonium, for the UK nuclear bomb program.
The later power stations (like Trawsfynydd) were just to reuse the existing (supposedly safe) designs.

A chap I knew who worked at Chapel Cross in the late 80s said Trawsfynydd was referred to as "that leaky old heap of ste", or words to that effect.

Saw this round at my parent's house - interesting program about the UK development of the bomb.
I notice there was (and maybe still is) a trend of the americans using foreign intellect to develop a national advantage to then stab the UK in the back when it comes to cooperation.

Not only with 'the bomb' but also with the likes of the jet engine for example.

A valid question would obviously be, "would the UK have done the same if the tables were turned?", possibly wink

It's a fair point but in the case of the Atomic stuff, it's quite understandable. Klaus Fuchs was "British" (German, but worked for us) -- but also passing secrets to the Russians.
