It all boils down to one thing, people are fallible, in any situation or circumstance anyone who is involved is subconsciously bringing all their own ideas and preconceptions along too.

I am not surprised by the finding of the paper, I am not surprised by its conclusions and I am not surprised by the reaction to it from some quarters.

As the poster above mentioned Climate science, I concur, that has become like a religion with both sides taking unhealthy entrenched views.

Unless we just use AI for science in future we will keep on seeing this.
The difference is that nobody says that the climate change skeptics are beyond criticism.

There was a big debate over quantum physics in the early 20th C but luckily for the scientists there were no armchair laymen with an internet connection to muddy the waters.

That's the problem with the internet nowadays, no editorial control on one level nor scientific peer control over time ( note over time)

I think I would have to defend that, yes.

People need religion,
No we don't.

People don't need religion, they just like it as a crutch because we as a species tend to like to have the positive reinforcement loops of a group.

It seems Political Correctness has caused a physicist to be suspended at CERN for stating some facts about men and women in science.
