If you find a motor that will start you better hope it has a full tank because that’s all the fuel you’re going to have access to.

How long have i got to build a Faraday cage or get stuff into one ?

Two of the offices i would normally work in have Faraday cages big enough for a car.

Sticking the laptop ( and EMC from the car ) in the microwave might help

Only if you resist the ingrained habit of selecting 2 minutes at full power when you close the door (let alone carefully peeling back the lid of your laptop and giving the contents a stir half way through cooking...)

That was my thought too, the wife's carb'd motorbike might be ok if the coils don't burn out, but it only has about 150 mile range on a tank of fuel and it's currently about 200 miles away.

These days most of my journeys are done by push bike though so that would be fine, however the loss of food distribution and banking services would make the great loo roll shortage of 2020 look like nothing.

I don't think that EMP's are as they are made out in the movies.

I don't think trying to start your car is going to be your chief problem after a high altitude nuclear attack.

At least with good old coil and points if the coil shorts out due to arcing you can cannibalise a large transformer and wind your own to get it going again.

"No water"? You seen those huge water towers dotted around? No need for pumps from them, gravity fed.

And don't forget to grab an altenator or five, power them from a bicycle and you've got a nice 12V power supply to feed those 12V bulbs you nicked from dead cars.

And an old ham radio, valve based, for communication.

What else? Water reverse osmosis system? Half a tonne of Ready Gro to bump start your vegetables? Vegetable seeds! Wheat and corn? A full petrol tanker, and a diesel one, and why not a paraffin one for luck?

And somewhere way, way, WAY out of the way where you can build somewhere to live and grow your own food for 25 years.

Erm...... all these cars with no electronics are fine but where are you all getting your fuel?

I'll be fine for a while with my more-than-half-a-century-old scraper tractor. Uber basic and no cab or radio, but I can cope with a spot of light drizzle. Combined with a gravity fed full diesel tank we'd be ok for a while. Obv the diesel will get looted by you lot though.......
