trying to change the head gasket on a peugeot 306 and need to remove the drive belt to get at the timing belt, tried to take of the manually adjusted pulley to slacken the drivebelt but the bloody bolt rounded off and now I can't take it off!!!

what do i do ?? im thinking about just cutting off the drivebelt and buying a new one and just worry about the pulley later?

but how would i remove this bolt? its in real tight space.

What size is the nut? I presume it is metric, so might be able to hammer on a slightly smaller imperial socket and get it to grip that way.

nah ive taken that one off, its for the power steering pump and AC compressor

its was a hex bit nut, sorry crap description.

Can you get at it to put a couple of flats across the outside with a file or grinder to get some purchase on it?

Drill the head off then remove the shank?

Hammer in a bigger hex bit, an imperial size maybe? Or hammer in a splined bit? (Brutal on your tool kit but might get you out of trouble)

ETA - saw a slot across the top?

I had a similar problem on my old pinto engine, cambelt tensioner bolt which took hex bits had been chewed up. I used a hammer and chisel to put a notch in the edge and hit it a few times to turn it enough that it could be undone with mole grips.
