Halford Battery Warranty
Discussion
Had my latest car eight months and yesterday it started chugging and then stopping, thought it was the alternator but took it this morning to my local mechanic and turns out the battery isn't holding enough charge.
The previous owner said he put a battery in before the last MOT in March. Battery looks brand new so i have no reason to doubt he did.
Anyway the battery is from that great British auto store Halfords and it clearly states it comes with a "Three Year Warranty" on the side.
Basically what i want to know is will Halfords be able to honour the warranty if the battery was bought by the previous owner and how will they tell when it was purchased.
From what Google has thrown up it seems some Halford stores have a different definition of Three Year Warranty than most of the general public or Trading Standards for that matter.
Any help appreciated

Must be a serial or date on the battery somewhere surely
Don't call me Shirley....
Yes, but if the T & C require a receipt then I guess it's up to the local store. (Not saying that the T & C do say this, I just know what my T & C would say if I were a battery vendor)
Only way to find out is to poll up & try.
I had a halfords battery that died - it had been on the car for about 18 months, I couldnt find the receipt, but noticed a sticker saying when the battery was charged before sale. I had a chat with the young lad at the local halfords and after a bit of discussion (pointing out that you can only buy halfords batteries from Halfords, and that the date charged was clearly within the 3 years of their "guarantee" ) they swapped the battery for me

Are you sure it's the battery?
A battery doesn't actually need to hold much charge, other than to get the engine going from cold. Once running, the alternator makes the system self-sufficient under almost all circumstances.
A failing alternator would allow the battery to discharge to the point where the engine will stop through lack of voltage to various essentials.

Unfortunately foe me I work for Halfords Autocentre and the Halfords store wouldn't change a customers battery with no receipt for us, So good luck What is required is proof of purchase, not a receipt.
If Halfords is the only place to buy a Halfords branded battery, what more proof would be needed?

re Bosch - I'd like to see a 5 year old receipt that hasn't faded to a blank piece of paper
They won't let me write a negative review!
I recently had to change my battery (within it's 5 year warranty period) but for some reason about not being able to test it as it wasn't charged (yes I know, I've had it on charge for hours but it won't hold) Halfrods would not honour the warranty and I had to buy a new one. This new one also has a five year warranty for what it's worth.
Halfords then invited me to submit a review, which I duly did but they have rejected it for 'not meeting their website guidelines'. I have read these and there is no conflict other than the review being rather negative.
Is this how they generate positive reviews? By simply publishing the ones they like?

Your first mistake was buying a battery from Halfords, second mistake was not using trust pilot to review a company.I recently had to change my battery (within it's 5 year warranty period) but for some reason about not being able to test it as it wasn't charged (yes I know, I've had it on charge for hours but it won't hold) Halfrods would not honour the warranty and I had to buy a new one. They won't want a negative review of there own product on there website will they...
Get on trust pilot
I had a similar experience to the previous poster: 3 year warranty Halfords battery not holding a charge after 18 months.... Confidentiality walked into Halfords with it expecting little trouble. The guy got his tester out an declared that since none of the cells had actually completely failed that it was not classed as a "manufacturing defect". Needless to say I have bought all my batteries elsewhere since.
never bought a Battery from Halfrauds, but would recommend Euro's if you've not bought a replacement for it yet.
I returned an 'Exide' Brand Battery that was a little over two years into its 3 year warranty at the time, with a receipt, and it was replaced no bother at all.
Buy an Exide or Bosch brand if you can afford it, coz they are better quality, and sign up for Euro's deals, they're very frequent and give you as much as 50% off
Note: check the procedure for changing the Battery on your vehicle / a relevant Forum for that make, before just whipping it off, as damage can be done in the course of reconnection.

Some of the problems with these batteries may be they're sealed for life.
I took a Duracell (2 out of 4 years) back to ECP who changed without bother.
However the replacement did look as though the label had been removed/replaced and the sealed cells perhaps refilled.
It's been ok since
