I've ordered these for now

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000X2B3DS/ref=...

Mainly used by me for sheered screws, clamping components etc

The cheap ass sets supplied at work twist and misalign when you clamp on, will these do the same or are there any recommended quality items... budget around £30

They are made by a decent brand & have short but fairly wide jaws, so should be pretty stable.

I have a set of Stanley mole grips that I found in the engine bay of my old Felicia - they are very good and have taken a lot of abuse.

Still, a set of 3 Irwin Vise Grips are only about £25 from Toolstation, so I'd get those.

Pliers look OK but someone at Amazon seems to have got their bullet points in a twist!
