I have an inop 12v DC motor. When I measure resistance across the terminals my multimeter shows 5.54 on the 20M range. Nothing on any of the other ranges.

Is this pretty much open circuit?

It all depends what type of DC Motor it is.

Reading is 5.54 Million Ohms, so yes, pretty much open circuit.

It could be that if you are holding the probe ends, the resistance you are reading is your body's resistance.

Place your meter probes in the back of the plug to the motor (with the motor connected)

Set your meter to read volts (on auto scale)

Switch on the motor circuit

Does your meter show 12v? If it does, the motor is fubar'd If not, you have an issue elsewhere.
