Evening all,

I posted this in the VAG section but not had any replies....

My 3 door 56 plate 1.9PD tdi Polo has developed a problem - the passenger door lock will not release either by using the remote central locking, or trying to open it "manually" from inside the car. When using the remote fob, there is a clicking/whirring from the passenger side but the "pin" in the door by the glass (that you see pop up/down when unlocking/locking) doesn't move. When I try pulling the release handle from the inside of the passenger door, there is a lot of resistance as if the handle can be pulled, but whatever it connects to is not moving (as with the remote, the "pin" does not move).

Previously (few years ago) the passenger side started playing up and I fitted a new central locking unit thing which "fixed" it. However, now its failed shut I cant even get the door card etc off to see whats going on.

How can I open the door?

Cheers

Sounds like door actuator has failed.....you'll just need to get the door card off, most of them can be removed with the door closed, just have a look where fixing are on drivers side.....I've done lots of VAG actuators, mostly rear golf ones....haven't damaged a door card yet.

Thanks for the replies smile

Yeah, it sounds like its the actuator playing up again; but last time it did that it was "easy" to replace as I could still open the door!

Rob, cheers for the youtube link, I'll give that a go as soon as I have a few hours free. There isn't a key hole on my passenger side (unlike the car in the youtube clip), but I'm hoping that won't be a stumbling block!

Cheers

If it's a poor soldering issue (in the lock) you could try heating the lock with a hair dryer ? i have had this work on a MK5 golf rear door a few months back, that was stuck deadlocked, i put in the garage and heated it, i beleive the heat expanded the sodler and made a contact again, a trick i've used on many many PC power units over the years, it can burn out the hair dryer so use an old one wink
