Hi all
My van has suffered from what seems to be a common fault with trafics/vivaros with water making its way into the engine compartment and sitting on top of the engine causing various issues. At the moment its running a little ragged- it is sometimes difficult to start and when driving it sometimes "hesitates" ( its worse if ive more throttle applied) and very occasionally loses all power when the "stop" and red engine light comes on - taking my foot off the throttle for a moment sorts it out and then I can continue onwards.
My cheap OBD shows a P0203 code (injector circuit /open cylinder3)
So injector on cylinder 3 or its wiring is duff
Assuming its the injector then it'll need a new one fitted and programmed in - I'm more than capable of replacing it but how do I get it programmed ? Is there software openly available or is it a job for a main dealer or independent garage ? Is there possibly a Mobile mechanic in my area (Thurrock Essex) who can program it in ?? Please bear in mind that I'm an absolute duffer when it comes to computers
Many thanks Ron

Are you sure about that? It's not uncommon for injectors to seize and snap and be a right censored to replace. Judging by your question about reprogramming I suspect you haven't tackled that job before and may not appreciate the potential issues.

On the other hand if it's a simple wiring problem, as the error code seems to suggest, that sounds like it ought to be straight forward to fix if you can track it down.

You're absolutely correct - its not a job I've tackled before but I'm more than capable of wielding a spanner its the coding of the replacement injector that concerns me as its not part of my skill set. However as you mention an internet search has revealed many tales of woe regarding seized or snapped injectors- its a common theme on these vans so I think ill investigate for any wiring or corrosion issues and test the injectors resistance and if the injector is duff I think ill be better off asking a local garage to do the replacement.
I'll let you know the outcome
Thanks Ron

Dont know if youve got any further with this problem yet, but if it turns out to be the injector faulty you may struggle to find a garage willing to take that job on due to the well known issues of injectors breaking in the head. You didnt say if it was a Trafic or a Vivaro, I understand that Vauxhall are repairing Vivaros free off charge even to the extent of new cylinder heads, although probabbly dependent on a dealer service history, but Renault havent followed suit.

Hi
Yes its an injector problem
Local garage will undertake the work but they use a specialist to remove the injectors - £350 but they guarantee to get them out whatever even if they snap. Add in cost of new injectors and garage fees to strip down install new injectors rebuild and program etc and I'm looking north of £1500
I've decided that its not financially worthwhile to have the work done so its going up spares or repair
Its a well known fault due to a design flaw of water running down the screen past a seal and dripping down onto the top of the engine where it sits damaging the injectors and making them corrode and impossible to remove.
