Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Currently driving around in an 11 plate Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

Basically, my aircon isn't working. The blowers are just throwing out air at the outside temperature, which currently is unpleasant.
To be honest, it's been like this for a whole but just haven't got around to sorting it.
I had it refilled and pressurised but no joy. I was told it was all good in regards to potential leaks etc.

I've had a peak down in the engine bay when the AC was turned on and from what I can see (and hear) the compressor clutch isn't kicking in. I've checked the fuse out and that looks perfectly fine.

Can anyone suggest any other things I can try to establish what could be the cause? Someone has suggested about getting a battery on the compressor to see if it engages but I have no idea how to do that and also it would be a right git to access.
I'm hoping it's an electrical fault as opposed to needing a new compressor. I've seen things such as a problem with the AC Relay or a low pressure switch?

Failing the above, can anyone recommend either a good AC specialist or Autoelectrician in the East Sussex/Kent border area?

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Sorry I can't recommend anyone. Have you tried asking the people who refilled it for you? They might know people locally who can take on aircon related issues.

Annoyingly I got it refilled in Cornwall on a trip down there so they can't help!

I have recently been through this with my MK4 Golf and two things that were stopping the compressor kicking in were:

1. A faulty pressure switch - this may be picked up by analysing the fault codes as that is where we picked it up on mine. If the pressure switch is gone then the compressor won't get the signal to kick in. Unfortunately if you need to change it you will lose all the gas.
2. Low speed fans not kicking in as these should run all the time on most cars when the air con is running. This is a common fault on VW's.

Your car may not be the same but worth checking.

The gas should be recovered and then put back in, and then only if the pressure switch is not on a Schrader valve type of arrangement.
