Ok so Ive recently had some service work done. Brake oil re filled. Wheel anlignment & balance. My car is a 59 plate fiesta.

Since then I have a ticking noice coming from my front passenger side wheel.

The noice sounds like a nail in the tyre. So the noise is on wheel rotation. (The tyre doesnt have a nail in it) the noise obviously gets more frequent if i speed up and if i go dead slow more obviously less frequent. It makes a tick noise once the wheel then rotates and it makes a tick noise again and so on..ITS DRIVING ME LITERALLY UP THE WALL!! heres what ive looked at so far.

Ive had the car on a jack and checked it all out i cant see any problem at all. Checked pads brake caliber etc cables stone guard. Copper pasted the pads the lot!!

Now... what i will say is when i have the car off the floor.. when i spin the wheel it doesnt make the noise at all. So would indicate that the noise if only made when weight is on the wheel.

Ive had the rims off the lot i still cant work it out. Any help would much be appricated.

Thank you

Tom

Ohh and the noise stays when turning braking the lot. Obvioulsy when slowing down the noise slows down.

I noticed after taking the car to the car wash the noise stopped for around 5 minutes

Thanks

If you jack up that corner and spin the wheel can you hear it? If so, you should be able to locate it.

Most likely they've managed to bend your brake disc shield so it's just touching the disc or something similar.

When you say there isn't a nail in it, have you actually checked the treads, because it does sound like it could be something stupid like a bit of gravel stuck in the treads.

Checked the tread. Swapped tyres the lot. Ive even took it to the garage that done the alignment and they cant work out what the sound is.

Is that a proper garage, or just a tyre/exhaust place? Even a tyre/exhaust place should have been able to rule out things stuck in the tyre. Since they have (presumably) ruled that out, I suggest consulting whoever services and maintains your cars and ask them what is causing the noise. Once you have excluded the wheel as the cause, the other options are something contacting the rotating parts, or a more serious problem in the hub. No cause for panic based on the way you've described it, but I've seen brake hoses and cables knocking against the hub cause tapping noises and they can occasionally lead to nasty problems so I think you're right to be a little concerned, at least until you have ruled out that type of problem.

That it stopped after getting wet at the car wash would point to something that requires lubricant isn't getting any - the water briefly provided some lubrication.

Agreed with the wet comment or it stopped it rubbing. And yes was a proper garage Ive prob driven it around 300 miles since getting it checked at the garage. It hasnt got any louder or diffrent in terms of noise

"brake oil refilled"... what does that mean? Some more detail on exactly what was done would be helpful.

1.Tyre balance
2.wheel alignment
3. Brake fluid was running low so this was filled.

Hope this helps.

Wheel balance...?

Wonder if one of the balance weights on the inside is fouling on something - brake caliper or disc shield. Have a look for any bright and shiny bits on the balance weights, and any witness marks anywhere.

Hi, have you put the car on axle stands and rotated each wheel by hand and heard any noise? Also have you seen any flat spots on your tyres?

I would say it was a wheel bearing if it went away after the car wash.

I'd check the drive shaft first, CV joints tick / click when worn. Has a CV boot split or been replaced recently?

Otherwise check for something rubbing against the ABS ring (on the driveshaft where it enters the rear of the hub), the ring could have rotted loose or the ABS sensor physically broken. Failing that check that the brake disk isn't so rusty as to be catching the anti-rattle shims on the brake pads.
