Improving the gear shift (rubber bush?) On my Subaru

Watching Wheeler Dealers where they improved the gear shift on a stunning Mitsubishi 3000GT and it got me thinking. The only thing I don't like on my 08 Subaru Forester is the slight rubbery feeling of the shift.

Are there any easy DIYable solutions that I can do without using a ramp etc etc
