I’m looking to buy a dial indicator for use on classic car engines, endfloats etc.
What increments/range would be best for this type of work?
Looking for imperial rather than metric.

Look for one with an inch travel, the cheaper versions with reduced range are a pain when timing cams etc.

Decide whether digital (easier to read, harder to make mistakes) or analogue (cheaper).
Sorry can't help with increments as i'm metric so go to 3 decimal places - .001

I would go the analogue route, as you don't use them that often the batteries are normally flat when you need it. I'd also spend out on a good mag base and arm setup.

Magnetic base if your engine's iron or flint if neolithic.
