For the avoidance of doubt, I am not affiliated in any way - I have just been on these courses and am surprised by how few people are aware of them so thought I would share.

It is quite London centric (based in Hammersmith) but the course allows you to not only learn about cars but crucially work on your own. Everything from understanding points and condensers and ignition timing to changing pads, discs, fluids and servicing. Saves me a fortune and I think for people in London, a warm space with a ramp is hard to come by.

I currently do their intermediate course but there are lots of other options. http://www.hfals.co.uk/courses/motor-vehicle/car-m...

Anyway, just wanted to share and hopefully see some of you there perhaps. I have a lot of work to do to the Compacts for this season!

Why on earth would anyone be teaching that? It seems irrelevant unless you plan to work on forty year old cars.

Because some people bring in cars that have them and need to do work on them.

Beetles, Triumph Herald etc.

Even had an old Silver Shadow in. Did you watch Harry’s Garage when he took his to the Arctic and his issues with the points?

Anyway, I find it interesting.

Last course we had a guy planning a road trip through Italy and into Croatia and back in his MK1 MX5 and he spent the 11 weeks or whatever it was working through all his issues and getting it in tip top shape for the trip. That sort of stuff. I was sorting out my Caterham mostly and another girl was rebuilding the drum brakes on her Morris Minor.
