Don't touch new Snap On.
I used to buy regularly off the Snap On truck, until I ordered a small toolbox. When it arrived it had a label similar to this on it, and I told him to keep it.

I never bought another Snap On tool after that.
Thats disappointing to see, i was under the impression all their rolling boxes were made in america or canada. I expect thinner sheet material too in that case.
All of their bluepoint stuff is made in china

Even more reason to buy second hand.

I have the Halfords advanced range, cabinet is £175 incl vat if you have a trade account

Edited to add that their advanced range is much better than the standard stuff.

It’s good to see that the Halfords stuff is still good, I have some Halfords roller cabs I’ve had for 26 years for home use and they’re still good. I had a poke around some before the lockdown and they seem to be the same quality.
I would definitely buy some more.

I don’t agree. The old Industrial stuff was much better but the Advanced 2 drawer tool trolley/cart I’ve got certainly isn’t “much better” quality than the standard tool chest in my earlier post.

I have both standard and advanced and I think the extra £50 for the advanced stuff shows, the steel is a little thicker and drawer runners are definitely better but if the standard range works for you I’m not going to argue

Maybe the tool trolley is just a bit pony (it’s only £100 or so) - not impressed with it at all.

My local store doesn’t have tool chests on display any more, sadly.

I’ve never had any of the old industrial range but it doesn’t surprise me it was better quality, it seems to be the way with most things nowadays frown

It was proper but it was priced to match. I think I paid about £250 for the older “Professional” stack (on the right in the above photo) and it was £450 for Industrial.

I guess an Advanced stack is about £370 or so?

Making tools in the US is expensive because of safety and pollution laws, plus the union demands, so when stores like Harbor Freight started popping up selling tools made in China, Snap On had a hard time competing and had to cut costs by also getting some of their tools made in China.
I bought a set of these a few years back because I needed them and I could actually read the sizes. Try as I might I have yet to break one. Even if I did they have a lifetime warranty.

I’m massively jealous of Americans for having access to Harbor Freight - as much as it’s slated. UK really doesn’t have anything that compares (Machine Mart is the closest in terms of the range of products but definitely not pricing!!)

Never understood why people get such a hard on for snap on stuff. I've used quite alot of it and own a few older snap on tools but dont get the hype? I know they have a good warranty and they do feel nice to use but lots of brands are doing both of those very well now for half the price. I think alot of it is brand snobbery tbh. Open your eyes and save some money.

I have had a halfords advanced full stack for a couple of years now and a friend bought it new quite a few years ago and it's still working perfectly.

I've got the Halfords Industrial roll cab/drawers/top box. I looked at the cheaper Halfords stuff and it seemed a bit flimsy in comparison. The offers are sometimes cheaper than trade.

Halfords for me too... does the job for a st home mechanic like me.

The drawers still work even after I kicked and bashed them in a rage...

They don’t sell that any more sadly. Was really good stuff.

I’d love to know what this stuff is actually like. I need another stack and will probably buy another from Halfords but these do look pretty good

I’ve had US Protool for a long time. It’s far better than it should be for the price. I went for 2 of the 54” jobbies and the long workbench. They’ve gone up in price due to exchange rates, and they are also sold under other names too.

Snap on dealers visit your workplace every week and offer credit terms, it's convenient to buy for lots of engineers/mechanics.
They also offer a very large range of tools with some oddball designs that can make doing a job a lot easier.
