Why would you risk your engine for £10 or less?

Why would you buy and support a country at odds with us, the way they have treated Hong Kong alone should mean no more spending their way - then add in the virus and it’s game over

Greed on the part of Toyota GB I would guess a JDM one would cost a few pennies more ..

I used to buy pattern service parts but now the difference in the main between OEM and pattern £ wise is really small.

It’s nice too going into main dealer to get the parts - see some new metal whilst there too

Nice easy way to actively avoid buying a product from the world most (others exist, but not so big) disgusting regime.

You sound like a man with more money than sense smile

I don’t buy OEM Toyota filters for my MR2. I get a Bosch equivalent. If I was going to buy a Toyota filter (which costs twice as much and isn’t necessarily recommended to do so by enthusiasts who own the same car), I definitely wouldn’t buy it from a main dealer because they’ll simply charge more for it than just about anywhere else.

OP ... So much of what we use daily is made in China. If you’re worried about an oil filter are you also worried about any number of other things you use manufactured in China?

I wouldn't be surprised if many OEM oil filters are made in china.

So, yes, I would use a chinese oil filter.

I want the U.K. to manufacture more so yes as tiny an impact someone can have by not buying Chinese products the better.
Though I’d say huge tariffs will not be too far away given Hong Kong Virus The 1million Muslim concentration camps force converting them away from Islam.
Disgusting all round.

I’m very much against the Chinese regime, however, the people who live in China and work in and own businesses don’t deserve to suffer for the ills of their dictator, so I’m slightly torn.

We need to call them out over their genocide and find other ways to put pressure on them. As for consumables we are far to dependant on them currently and simply stopping using them on a wide-scale would harm us more than them I think.

OP, you might have watched it but there's an interesting youtube vid where one of these US auto repair channels cuts open five different price point oil filters to see which ones are worth it, or worth avoiding.

It has to be said these are all US market filters but you can get an idea of some of the tricks various manufacturers use to minimise their cost, at the risk of consumers engines.

A very simplistic view.
Looking at your car collection for instance I see Ford, Mercedes and BMW listed past and present. All have manufacturing plants in China both for parts and complete cars.

I read that all Kawasaki oem filters are made in China, so you probably have, as I can't believe they are the only ones.
