I got a key fob with my car but it didn't have a battery in it and I'd never used it. I'd always used the key to lock/unlock in the door. Yesterday I struggled with the key a lot so I thought I'd get round to sorting the fob out, I bought a battery for it this morning and tried programming it following a guide I found online, which involved putting key in, turning and pressing a button on the fob, and doing that 4 times until hearing the lock clunk sound. I did this and although hearing the sound, the locks never locked/unlocked. The fob didn't do anything either afterwards. Since doing this, every time I unlock the door the alarm goes off (just lights, no sound), so I am having to do the programming on the fob each time to turn it off.

Anyone had a similar sitation? It seems like the alarm was disengaged before now I have tried using the fob it has engaged it again. I had AA out who suggested I would need a new fob programmed which would be quite pricey. I'd assume the previous owner had disengaged the alarm and chucked the key fob battery. I always had a flashing red light on the dashboard previously including when driving, but now only get it once I exit and lock the vehicle.

Thanks
