Hello,

I think my starter motor on my 2016 Citroen Relay 2.2 needs replacing. All I hear is a click when I turn the key than a few more clicks increasing in frequency and then it stops.

Tried jumping from another vehicle and a battery booster. Does anyone know if I can replace the starter from underneath or is it a front end off job?

Thanks,

E-bmw

OK, give us a clue, what happened? wink

Have you tried all of the high current connections in the starter circuit yet?

Sorry.

The same happens. There is a click, then another which speeds up for about 10 clicks and then nothing.

This was without a jump from another car but when I tried it with another car the same thing happened but the volatge started at 14.5 and dropped to 12.5.

The high current connections, the fused connections on top of the battery?

In addition to checking the connections (its very important they're clean, they carry a lot of current)

years back that good old fashioned 'repair all', ie a thump with a Hammer, used to be effective at temporarily free-ing a dodgy Starter and therefore 'proving' it to be the culprit.

If there's room, give it a shot, 2 or 3 reasonable taps to the casing will be sufficient, if successful.

If there's not, stick it in 5th gear, release handbrake and push the car back & forth (on flat ground), then try again.

Haynes manual will advise whether or not its a Front End off job, a worthwhile investment if you don't already have one.

Note that bad High Amperage connections, if this is the case, can cause fire; further good reason to check.

I guess in today's world of 'Stop Start' engine systems, Starters might fail more often. Glad my motor's 25 years old.

Starter replaced last night and still no joy. Now when I turn the key, there is a fast clicking but no cranking.

As you have been told a few times now, the next step should have been to properly check (not just wiggle) all of the high current connections on the starting/charging circuit, which is free, as they cause more problems that actual starters themselves.
