HI All, I think I may have purchased a car that has been clocked . I have a basic OBDII device that I’ve used in the past on cars to diagnose small faults but it doesn’t have the capacity to delve deeper and look at mileage and non engine faults / codes . I could take it to a dealer / garage / man in an electronics van but I’m thinking for the same price I may be able to purchase a more sophisticated device that could tell me if I’ve been “done” The car is a fairly old Nissan for reference . Has anyone purchased a device that would tell me the mileage and if so what sort of price range are we talking .. the same or more than for a professional diagnosis . Many thanks in Advance Pete . To note I don’t live in the UK otherwise I could check MOT etc but here in Spain things are “slightly “ different 😉

I'd be very surprised if a 'fairly old' nissan recorded the mileage in any of the ECU'S. Depends how old it is i suppose.

Suspect a non clocked one is worth twice the price of a clocked one. £300 clocked v £600 not clocked. :-)

I’m guessing from the general tone of the reply’s that everyone is more interested in laughing at my car because ita not a “PH” car . No worries .. I’m 47, retired, extremely happy, the weather tomorrow is mid 20,s with lots of sun and I’ll. ask my question on some nicer sites over a late breakfast.

Thought you had an answer above ie you can’t read such data as it’s not stored on the Ecu. Not sure what relevance retirement, temp or your breakfast will have.

Someone saying “ they’d be surprise if it did” doesn’t constitute an answer in my book . Perhaps my ability to not be swayed by vague detail indicates you are and it irritates you ?

Well, under the circumstances & total lack of information you gave in your first post I how on earth did you expect to receive a detailed answer?

I have absolutely no idea what you are actually trying to say in your last point though, it is that vague, but then as your first post was also that vague, perhaps it is normal for you.

Going back to other posts that you undoubtedly found irksome people were just guessing the car & let's be honest a description like "fairly old nissan" doesn't exactly shout expensive/desirable does it?

And yet as you pen your sad response an altogether nicer person responds from a car forum with exactly the information I need . They had the same information but they clearly unlike you don’t drive a bmw or company merc and wear a tacky watch to replace their oh so bland life . As predicted I had to wait until after breakfast but hey ho . Perhaps if you were less influenced by influencers ? , could think for yourself ? weren’t affected by lockdown so much ? Didn’t rate a car unworthy because it didn’t possess 400 HP you may be less anxious about your future and what you were doing with your life ? Me , I have my answer and I’m off to do a bit of online shopping and then popping to the beach to take the dog for a walk .. I’ll have to kind the Spanish Rozzers though .. there a bit like you and can be touchy when their off there meds .

Wow.

Looking on the bright side, however, in Spain at least you'll have a good choice of fish to go with that chip on your shoulder...

How about spending your retirement taking an online spelling course?! A bit of mindfulness probably wouldn't hurt either. Otherwise probably best not to rile at people on a web forum as you don't like the answers to your question.

Glad you found a place of like minded old Nissan owners who could help you gain an answer. What was the answer?
