Hi

Ive got a MX5 Mk3 2009 reg. It may have a passcode for the in car radio, not sure.
In case it has and I dont know it, is there a way to change the battery without it resetting?
I have a charger which maybe I could use whilst battery is swapped, would that work?

Is it simple to change a battery? Just need screwdriver and something to undo a clamp that hold battery in place?

About £100 for anew battery seem right? Tempted to let Halfords do it, but if they do but the radio will almost certainly reset with them I suspect.

Thanks all.

You'll need a spanner/socket wrench to do the battery change rather than a screwdriver

Is the passcode for the radio not in the service book somewhere?

I used to have a mk 2.5 and changed the battery on that with no bother.

Same with my V50 Volvo.

If in doubt, a battery pack connected to the terminals before you undo them then carefully lift them out of the way.

I`ve never, ever changed a battery with the engine running.

Nope, absolutely not.

Thanks all.

I found a battery place that could change it for me, £60 for battery plus fitting. Will give them a go. They said I could just rock up when Im ready and they'll swap it over, pretty good, just need to get the car started!

Car parts for less etc best prices were around the £80 mark.

My 2009 MX5 had no passcode set. There is the option in the head unit for a user settable passcode, so it's a bit of a lottery if a previous owner has added one and not written anything in the handbook.
