Diesel Filter change priming using oil extractor pump?
Discussion
HI All,
Can I use a extractor pump, same sort of idea as below to prime my 2010 Mondeo 2.0 TDCI after changing the fuel filter? Other option seems to be the bulb type rubber thing but seems mixed success with that, and I already have a oil extractor pump. I can see no reason why it wouldn't work?
Thanks

Can't help with the pump idea, but most Diesel fuel filters i've changed over the years i've been able to pre fill with clean fuel before offering up, whether the vehicle was fitted with a primer bulb/plunger or not.
If the Mondeo is a poor design which can't be pre filled then ignore my waffle, if not one would hope they designed in a plunger/bulb and didn't expect the battery/starter motor to do the job of priming.

Not sure how similar they'll be, but I've a 2.0 V50 so possibly the same basic PSA derived engine. I've fitted a bulb in line before the filter bowl. Top up with fresh fuel, screw the lid on, open the bleed valve, pump till fuel comes out, close valve and start. Without the bulb you could open the valve and draw the fuel through with a syringe or similar but I think an electric pump would be overkill... you're only drawing a tiny amount of air out the filter bowl, not dragging fuel right up from the tank.

Thanks guys. My Mondeo has the filter at the back under the car in a plastic housing. From Google they seem tricky to bleed but not impossible. All ready to try this weekend!
They can be a nightmare to bleed, I think more so with higher mileages. No idea if your idea will work though, interested in the results.
